Check out my PageRank for Chrome extension too.
This is a simple extension that shows the unread posts count in Google Reader in the extensions area. Look at the screenshot below.
You have to be logged in to Reader to get this to work. But you need not have Reader opened in a tab. There are no settings for the extension.

Whats new in V0.4

The “Subscribe” button is given by another extension, not this one.

Seems that Chrome is not giving sufficient support as Mozilla for add on(s).
Add on can be downloaded but can’t be installed.

Assuming that the “Subscribe” extenssion is Google Reader related, where can I find it. Can you point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

Even though I got this new release, I’m getting a strange behaviour of the extension. Some times it stays out of place, some times just disappear, and another “chrome window” can be seen on the windows statusbar (even though there are no other chrome windows opened).

I see that behavior too. I chalk it down to growing up problems with the Chrome extension system. I will file a bug report.

With the last Chrome update, now there is a crash when you click on the extension (to go to the reader website). But the counter still works.

Yes, seems to be a Chrome bug: http://is.gd/C3bz

I have five extensions for chrome dev (v2.1.181.1): AdSweep; GMailDefaultClient; GMail Checker; Subscribe in Reader; andGoogle Reader Notifier for Chrome (295). I presume the last one is the one also known (here) as Google Reader Notifier for Chrome — is that correct?
They all seem to work as advertised – except for Google Reader Notifier for Chrome. Clicking the status-bar link causes an abrupt crash to chrome, with two error windows from chrome as well as a bug-report prompt.
Aside from the confusion on your part as to the name of your extension, it seems pretty much useless except as a quick shutdown mechanism.

I meant to say that chrome://extensions reports the fifth extension as “Google Reader Checker”

Yes, there is a bug in Chrome that causes the crash. Check this link: http://is.gd/C3b. The other extensions have implemented a workaround. I will try to incorporate that soon.

Google changed the way the extensions appear. They are shown in the addon bars now. Can not have it appear in the bookmark list. Sorry.
