Check out the video demo of the new HTC’s new GUI built on top of Android. I always liked the HTC GUIs on Windows Mobile phones. I thought they would port this to Android. But they have totally created a new GUI called HTC Sense.
The GUI is great but the best part is that the phone supports multi-touch with two finger pinch and all. Cool!
Plus it has got Pre like Facebook and Twitter integration. It has got iPhone 3GS like smudge proof coating. The only odd thing is the “chin”.
It has a 3.2 inch 320×480 HVGA screen and measures 4.41 x 2.21 x 0.57 inches. It is powered by a 528 MHz processor with 288MB of RAM. It has a a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, a digital compass, a 3G talk time of 7 hours, support for 7.2 Mbps HSPA and a microSD card slot.
Looks like it combines the best features of iPhone and Pre and then some! Coming to North America later this year. Price unknown.
I heard about Presto at jkontherun. It sounded very interesting:
With Presto you can start up your computer in seconds – or shut down in one second, like magic. You will be able to instantly start to e-mail, chat, Skype™, listen to music, surf the internet or download apps – before Windows XP or Vista even boots – and you will automatically be connected to the best available network.
- Browse the web securely using Firefox™
- Chat using instant messaging (IM)
- Make free Skype™ to Skype™ calls
- Listen to music and watch videos
- View and edit documents created in Microsoft Office™
- Download games, music, videos and more through the Presto Application Store
So I installed it on my tablet to try it out. The installation was very simple and straight forward. When I rebooted I was provided with an option to boot into Presto. Well I did not measure the time but it was not “instant on”. I could have booted into Windows 7 if I had waited for a few more seconds. Windows 7 boots really fast.
Once I booted up I was able to connect to my wireless LAN without any trouble. The big icons on the screen wanted me to use them with touch (my tablet has a touchscreen) but touch does not work.
Other wise the OS is usable but I hate the fonts! I was able to find and install a screenshot app without any problems.
Will I buy Presto for $20? No. I would give it a shot if it booted instantly or with in 5 seconds…
My wife gifted me with a Nokia E71 for my birthday.
Thanks Teena.
Above is a size comparison of E71 with my other gadgets: Nokia E61, Cingular 8525, iPod Touch and Nokia N810. It is the smallest. You have to hold it to feel how small it is. It has a very solid feel to it. It has got it all: US 3.5G, GPS, Bluetooth, QWERTY keyboard and is smaller than an iPhone!
The keyboard is great to type on even though it is smaller than the E61′s. I setup my Exchange account in this and all my contacts were in it almost instantly. I love Exchange Email. Now I am looking for cool apps to put in it. Let me know if there are any cool apps I should try…
I have probably never posted about my iPod Touch here. I bought one for my dad when I went to India. I was just testing it out before handing it over. I liked it so much that I kept the one and got my dad a new Touch.
This was before the 2.0 update. I liked who it instantly turned on, had the awesome browser and the nice mail client (which supports HTML mail. Nokia, where is HTML support in your email client!).
The the 2.0 update came up with the promise of a million useful application to be built on the Apple’s official SDK. Then there is also the Exchange ActiveSync support. I got the update as soon as I could.
Exchange sync is cool. Now I got all my contacts and calender synced up. But the puch email was killing the battery life on my Touch. I lasted only two to three hours!!! Well with push and location services turned off it is a bit better but I still am not happy with the battery life. There are still some annoying issues with the exchange implementation. You can read about it here. The key annoynace for me is that message status is not sent to the server. If I reply to a mail from my Touch I can see the replied status on my PC.
Coming the apps, Apple is acting as a clearing house for all apps to get on iTunes. This is a good idea but I am dissapointed to see the umpteen Flashlight applications in the store. I hear that a lot of potintially good applications are still pending to be reviewed at Apple’s end. Hm…
Anyway here are the apps I am regularly using on my Touch:
That is a short list out of the 1000(?) apps currently available. I am looking for more apps like todo lists… But I can not seem to find one I like.
Prior to the 2.0 update I liked the Touch because everything just worked and all the applications looked and felt the same. Now not anymore I get frequent chrashes, the apps does not look the same or act the same anymore… I will wait a little longer to see good quality apps roll in.
