This is cool. The Galaxy Bean can project an image between the size of 5 inches to 50 inches! Can not imagine how the battery life will be. It should be interesting to go to meetings with just a phone and project presentations on the screen. Nice. It will be released only in Singapore though. [electronista]

Samsung Captivate [androidcentral.com]
Samsung Galaxy S phones are coming to almost all US Mobile Carriers. The phone compares well with even the iPhone 4. The screen Super AMOLED seems to match the Retina Display. The Samsung Hummingbird processor is very capable too. I would love to get myself a Samsung Captivate as soon as it becomes available. I like my iPhone but it is getting a bit boring to use. I can’t tweak or hack it like the other smartphones I have had. Android seems to be the most tweak-able phone OS out there now.
But what is worrying is how every carrier apart from Sprint has removed the front facing camera from the phone. The original Galaxy S has a front facing camera. Looks like they don’t want anyone to be using video chat over their network. My Dad and Brother both have a Nokia N900 and seem to be video chatting using Skype. Why can’t I get a Android phone that can do it too?
Comments Off iOS 4 was released yesterday. The update took a couple of hours for me. Everyone must have been downloading it. But I was watching Portugal score a sea of goals against North Korea while I waited. The update completed without any problem.

Strangely the thing I don’t like is the way background apps work. The OS puts every app I open in the quick app switching list, even the ones that don’t support quick app switching. Does not make sense. The trouble with this is that quick app switiching is slower than launching the apps from the home screen, thanks to the new folders feature. And didn’t Jobs say that when an OS make you kill apps they have failed. I had to kill apps all day today.
The other thing is that the update made things very unstable. I have had a lot of apps crash on me today. Everything seems more sluggish too. Hmmm… Is Apple bloating their OS or encouraging us to upgrade to iPhone 4?

Comcast recently added the myDVR Manager to my area. This lets me view, schedule and edit my DVR recording online. The same feature is also available on their iPhone App. Scheduling recoding from the iPhone app is way easier than their DVR’s UI but it needs more refinement.
The search results for shows leaves a lot to be desired. It has no filter to show HD programs only. Most of the time it shows only the standard def. results. Hope they fix this soon. Also I can not wait for their iPad app.

I have been using LogMeIn previously to remotely connect to my Tablet PC or Desktop at home for sometime. Like I mentioned earlier the free version was sufficient for my needs. They have an iPhone app but it costs $30. I don’t remotely connect often to shell out 30 bucks.
Recently I found TeamViewer via Download Squad. TeamViewer is free for personal use and has a free iPhone app too. It works great. Now if I need to look at some documents on my home computer I can just fire up the app in my iPhone and find it. Nice. Should be interesting to see how this works on an iPad.

Comments Off When I read that Map Quest had released a free navigation iPhone app I downloaded it at once but I just got to try it out. Well I am dissapointed with it. When I am on a highway it kept saying I was off route wanted to reroute. It does not reroute automatically but show a dialog box I have to OK. Plus the routing is not very good. It wanted me to make a U Turn when I knew I just had to turn left to reach the destination. Anyway I hope Google comes out with their app…

Comments Off Looks like Microsoft made a clean start with Windows Phone 7 Series except for the name. Love how they have integrated integrated Windows Live and Facebook. Check out the video above. I hope the ISV and Carriers don’t mess it up with their customization.

After holding out for so long I finally succumbed to the pressure and converted from Nokia E71 to an iPhone. My wife, Tina, got me an iPhone for my birthday! Thanks Tina. She had also got me my E71 last year. 
It is early days. I am still missing a few things from the E71 like timed profiles…
