Why are you still referring to this old “links” directory for “Keeping plugins and workspace separate”?

With eclipse3.4 or 3.5 and p2, the option org.eclipse.equinox.p2.reconciler.dropins.directory is the “new links”.

You don’t need settings to tell eclipse where a ‘portable’ java resides. Just create a folder ‘JRE’ in your eclipse folder and put the java folders (bin, lib) in there. That’s it – now eclipse is portable and java is included.

And for the workspace: Just create a workspace with a relative path (to the eclipse folder). e.g. ./workspace/…

This way you don’t have to adjust the workspace path anymore!

I agree it is the combination with Portable Java that is interesting. But what I like is the integration with PortableApps launcher.

Dude, don’t you know that Eclipse already portable?

Just wondering how someone couldn’t knew it? I mean when you first download it from official web site – the only thing you need to do is just extract zip and it ready to use…

Yes, portable Java is nice but it’s another topic and I’m almost sure that it shouldn’t be a problem to tell usual Eclipse via settings where your portable Java resides and it should work…
