Linux Tablet: Raven X41 Tablet

04 Oct

EmperorLinux specializes in the installation and configuration of the Linux operating system on laptop and notebook computers. Their most recent laptop is a Tablet. EmperorLinux are selling Lenovo’s ThinkPad X41T with Linux pre-installed. The key features of a tablet like pen input, handwriting recognition, pressure sensitivity, and switching between landscape and portrait all work under Linux. The fingerprint scanner on the ThinkPad also works.

They claim that handwriting features require some training, but with careful training, are very nearly as good as the “Windows Journal” at this time.

There are very few applications in Windows which fully use the pen input features. Not even Microsoft’s own Office. There are even less if not none in Linux. But hopefully there some innovation from the Linux community in this area. Microsoft needs some competition here. :-)
